File Management: Navigating File Manager
List of File Manager Features
Feature | Description |
---|---|
Creating new directories can help you keep complex websites organized. Having multiple directories is required if you plan on hosting multiple websites on your account. | |
You can delete an unwanted website, theme, or plugin with the click of a button. Individual files can also be deleted at any time. | |
Permissions are used for granting or limiting access to a directory and its contents. | |
If File Manager does not seem to be displaying the most up to date contents, you can refresh it. | |
File Manager can be used to directly upload files from your computer onto your website. | |
You can create new files from scratch, right from inside of File Manager. | |
You can copy files and directories. Copied items will be placed in a different directory of your choice. | |
You can move files and directories from one location to another. | |
You can zip files using the File Manager (use Archive Gateway to unzip files). | |
You can manually edit the contents of any text-type file (.html, .css, .js, etc). You have the option of using a plain text editor or a rich text editor. | |
Preview | You can preview how a file will look on the web by clicking on the Preview button. |
You can download files one at a time from File Manager onto your computer. | |
Certain files can have a significant impact on website functionality (such as .htaccess files). Showing these files allows you to edit and modify them. | |
File Manager shows you which folder is treated as your public directory. Anything inside of the public directory can be seen over the web (unless permissions specifically prevent the file/directory from being viewed). | |
Search Files | You can easily find a specific file inside of the selected directory by using File Manager's search functionality. You can even narrow down the search by file type. |
Directory Path | For each directory you look at, File Manager will display the directory path used to get there. It takes the guesswork out of finding which directory path you need when linking to specific files. |
